Efficient Tritium Extraction from Liquid Lithium

July 25, 2023

This INFUSE project focuses on experimentally testing and measuring the operating performance of an electrochemical method of separating tritium from liquid metals in tritium breeding blankets. The target fusion application for this work is SX1, a stellarator fusion energy plant planned by Stellarex Inc. This technology should also be applicable to other types of fusion systems. Stellarex is partnering with the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), who will measure the key operating properties of the separation process and examine several potential ways to improve the process. The results will be used in a techno-economic analysis of the best configuration of the separator in a fusion blanket system.
