SOLPS-derived separatrix operating space scalings for informing SPARC integrated power exhaust scenarios

August 8, 2024

Commonwealth Fusion System (CFS) is currently building the SPARC tokamak outside of Boston, MA. It will demonstrate commercially relevant net energy. SPARC is designed to operate in a highly-dissipative edge plasma regime to mitigate heat flux on its divertor targets through controlled impurity seeding. This collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will investigate the impact of these impurities on plasma performance by leveraging SOLPS multi-physics modeling capabilities at ORNL. ORNL researchers will produce light-weight scalings from SOLPS simulation data for use by CFS towards SPARC scenario planning and control.
