Developing a renewable first wall with boron pebbles.

July 25, 2023

As stellarator reactors are steady state, heat removal and tritium recovery will be challenging without a rapidly renewable first wall. This INFUSE proposal aims to develop a boron based renewable first wall that is capable of sufficient heat removal and tritium recovery from stellarator fusion devices. A technique to make boron pebble rods will be developed. The pebble rods will then be bench-tested under plasma environment as well as reactor relevant heat loads.
